Warming Spicy Green Juice: A Radical Radiance Recipe

People often ask me how it’s possible to handle drinking cold juice during the winter, whether that’s in the context of a Juice Feast, or just adding fresh juice to your normal eating routine. I discussed this more in-depth in my post, How to Juice Cleanse in Cold Weather, but one of the tricks is to use lots of cayenne and ginger. This is a good tip if you want to eat a lot of raw food in winter, too.

And so, today’s juice recipe is just that kind of recipe: abundant in both cayenne and ginger, and so therefore warming, since both of those increase circulation and will make you feel warm despite the juice being cold.

Warming Spicy Green Juice Ingredients:

makes about 24 oz. in a juicer

1.5 large or 2 small cucumbers

3 large stalks celery

1.5 cups leafy greens (I used kale this time, but you really could use any green — spinach, parsley, cilantro, etc., or a mix of them)

1 large apple

1/2 small lemon

1 inch fresh ginger

1/8 tsp cayenne pepper

Directions:

Set cayenne pepper aside, and juice all other ingredients. If using the Vitamix/nut milk bag method of making juice, add 1+ cups of water before blending and then straining.

After making juice, sprinkle the cayenne in and enjoy!
