How I Use Juice Cleansing to Access Suppressed Emotions

Juice cleansing has really helped me in healing food addiction.

Sometimes I hesitate to talk about it, because I don’t want people to think you have to do one to heal food addiction, and I also don’t recommend it for people with restrictive tendencies with food.

It is best utilized by people whose main issue is overeating.

But the truth is that indeed, juice cleansing has been a really pivotal experience for me in healing my lifelong overeating.

Yes, lots of physical benefits happen, but the important thing has been how it has helped me access my emotions.

When cleansing really started helping me was when I had reached the point where I knew I had a lot of suppressed emotions and I knew there were a lot of things to feel about from my childhood and my relationship with my parents.

When I entered a juice cleanse expecting and being ok with massive emotions arising in the space of no food, that’s when cleansing changed the game for me.

And indeed, when this is what I’d decided I wanted, rage, terror, and grief came up almost daily.

In order for a juice cleanse to be truly a help in healing overeating rather than a crash diet or something to perpetuate restriction addictions, we need to have the following desires:

-To find more truth about our childhood and to question the taboo around examining our relationship with our parents. What really happened to you where food addiction has been a result?

-To feel big, overwhelming emotions that may include panic, terror, anger, rage, hopelessness, pain and grief.

If we do this, it is a marvel what we can access on a cleanse.

It reminds me of a quote I like:

"What the eyes are for the outer world, fasts are for the inner." -Gandhi
