60 Day Juice Feast – Day 41

Wow, this blog has now officially been visited from every state in the U.S. and over 50 countries. How grateful I am for the technology of computers and the internet that allows me to share this juicy experience on such a far reaching basis! It is also an indicator that people around the world are ready for this information, and ready to claim their vibrant health and radiance!

The past few days I’ve been very coldand its been hard for me to drink anything when I’m cold. The trouble with that is that I get a little hungry… the lesson is to make more juice in the morning so I’m not caught hungry!

Today’s Feast, in order of consumption:

28 oz. orange juice w/ 1/2 TBS MSM

6 oz. green juice w/ lemon, ginger, cayenne and turmeric

8 oz. herbal tea

4 TBS bee pollen

32 oz. garden greens/celery/apple juice

32 oz. cilantro/apple/spinach juice

A few questions from readers:

Hi Courtney, i would like to feast but my job doesnt allow me to get fresh juice any time of the day, only mornings and afternoons so i make it fresh before work and when i get home again, what do you think, any advice ?

Evagelia

Hi Evangelia,

Yes, there are many things you can do. The first thing is to make all your juices in the morning. While I’m able to get juices throughout the day during this particular juice feast I am on, I understand that not everyone can. Even if you have to make a gallon or a gallon and a half of juice every morning and then take them all with you, that is fine! I recommend highly that you make most of your juices in the morning – you do not, do not want to be left without juice. It is much better to have excess that you finish later on in the evening than to think you’ll be able to make it on less juice and find that you can’t. Although juices have the most enzymes when they’ve just been juiced, its fine to have them anytime that same day. If someone were feasting to deal with some acute condition – say cancer for example – we juice feast coaches recommend that they do get as much of their juice as possible as fresh as possible – they are more sensistive and need that extra benefit that drinking super fresh juice has. But for most of us – no big deal to have juices that you juiced one or two or six or eight hours ago. I don’t have all of my juices right away, its totally ok. Remember – this is about simplicity and enjoyment – so don’t sweat it if it’s not super fresh. Another recommendation – fruit juice tends to keep longer and taste better if its been sitting for a while than green juice. Thus, I’d recommend drinking your greens first in the morning, and then have the juices which you’ll drink a while later and throughout the day be the fruit juice (or a combination of fruit and greens), and then definitely get in more greens in the evening, and drink them fresh, if you can.

Hello, I am new to raw foods, juice feasting, blogging, twittering, etc. but I am working on getting hooked up! Congrats on your juice feasting. I would love to do it but need to buy some books on the topic. Good luck to you and Happy Holidays, Traci

hi courtney
your blog is so inspirational!
i have a question… i just started taking msm and it tastes AWFUL!!! is this normal?
the only way i can seem to stomach it is if i take it as a shot by dissolving it in a little bit of water. i am just starting out with 1/4 tsp a day and i can’t imagine what your 32 oz. juices with 1 Tbsp of it taste like! Is this bad taste normal or have i just purchased a poor quality msm brand? Any suggestions?
Big hug to you and thanks!

Thank you very much! There are a couple things I’ll cover in answering your question. First of all, as a general answer, yes, it is normal to have an aversion to the taste of MSM – many people, most even, do. It is definitely strong. I have always and only used the MSM sold by Nature’s First Law (http://www.sunfood.com/). The Tree of Life sells an MSM with a brand name called Rich Distributing. As I understand, there is not a huge difference between brands of MSM. My suggestion is to dilute it. It may seem like a better idea to get it all in at once with as minimal amount of liquid as possible, but I don’t find that to be the case, for me at least. When I’ve tried to do it that way, it’s been way too strong for me. The 1 TBS diluted in a quart of liquid is much better for me. I can’t even really taste the MSM in my juice, truly. When I take it with water, I take it in a similar proportion – 1 TBS or more in a quart.

The other part of this is that taste buds change. As has happened with most strong tasting substances I take (MSM, Green Powders, Max Stress B), they taste milder to me over time. I couldn’t handle much MSM when I first got into it, maybe 2 years ago. Now, though, I can handle up to 4 TBS in a quart of water very easily. So you may find that you can take more and more MSM as time goes on (provided, however, that you’re eating an increasingly pure diet – your taste buds won’t change if they’re still being perverted by chemicals and other unnatural food additives). I believe it would be better for you to do a very small amount as frequently and diluted as possible. That way, you’ll get in more MSM consistently than if you avoid it because you’re doing shots of it that are so strong. I hope that helps! MSM is the best ever!
