60 Day Juice Feast – Day 39

by Courtney on November 25, 2007

Today was a lovely day of sleeping in, and then a nice trip to Tucson to see ‘Into the Wild’… what an AWESOME movie, I highly recommend it!!

Today Thim and I have really solidified and moved into a feeling of inspiration to create a regular, fairly intense exercise regime. I was very active all my life until I graduated high school and no longer was in team sports. I was a competitive swimmer for over 10 years and a water polo player for 4 years. Because I was the varsity captain of both these teams and was training to contend for state titles (I had 12 state medals in competitive swimming by the time I graduated high school), I was training up to four hours per day. I would usually swim for between 2 and 3.5 hours per day and weight lift several times per week for about an hour each time, as well as doing some cross training. My body can take a lot of intense exercise, so it worked very well for me. I eventually stopped my passion of water sports because I discovered how much damage the chlorine had done to my system – almost 11 years of swimming thousands of hours in chlorinated pools with chlorine filled air had really shot my liver and thyroid, among other things. Since then, it’s been really tough for me to find other forms of exercise I enjoy enough to do on a regular, long term basis. I haven’t really – swimming was absolutely my passion – but I have found satisfaction in exercise if I can switch up my activities – running, rebounding, hiking, dancing, rebounding, and yoga. Someday I dream of all pools being completely non chlorinated and filtered via natural and nontoxic methods – the minute that happens I will be back in the pool for my hours upon end, competing as much as I possibly can :)

The picture above is actually of my 18 year old brother, who is a nationally ranked water polo player – I love that pic though, so I thought I’d put it up as a nice little action shot:)

And thus, I’ll be keeping track of my exercise progress as I continue to blog about this juice feast. And if it seems like I’m slacking, any of you can whack me back to my senses ;)
Today’s Feast, in order of consumption:
32 oz. apple/celery/cucumber juice w/ spirulina and salt
32 oz. spinach/apple/pear juice w/ spirulina
32 oz. pomegranate/apple/pear/berry juice
1/2 TBS coconut oil
2 TBS honey
Didn’t quite get all my juice in today, but GUESS WHAT I BOUGHT AT WILD OATS!?!?! Wait for it… Wait for it… CILANTRO AND PARSLEY. I know. Ridiculously amazing.
